The Mandate for what is today known as the
Uncommon Church was birth in the heart of Pastor Dala Alphonso on February 16,
2003 while in Greenville, Michigan where he was a guest speaker at a local
Church. From Isaiah 2:2,3, he discovered that God was calling him to pioneer an
"Uncommon" Church which culminated in our mission statement "Raise up an
uncommon people: a people of uncommon knowledge, a people of uncommon wisdom
whose influence will bring about a radical change to our world".
The Preparation
began in earnest as Pastor Dala and his family were taken through several
seasons to equip them for this uncommon assignment. Prayers, planning and
positioning continued steadfastly for three and a half years before Omaha was
chosen as the launching pad for this global mission. By faith, Pastor Dala and
his
family moved to Omaha in the summer of 2007 and began reaching out to anyone he
could find within the city limits which included neighbors, co-workers, clerks at gas
stations, grocery stores, hotels and whoever he could find.
The Foundation for the Uncommon Church was
laid on Sunday, August 12, 2007 with a grand opening service at the Hampton Inn &
Suites - Westroads, Omaha which attracted 33 men, women and children. It was a very exciting
start for a Church that we know is going to greatly impact this city and indeed
the nation. Since 99% of the membership were brand new Christians, it was
expedient to spend time in developing them to ensure a strong relationship and
walk with God. For over six months, no advertisement whatsoever was placed in
the media but the news
spread by word of mouth to over 60 people who visited our group Bible studies on
Sunday mornings and Thursday nights. During
this period, we have recorded amazing transformation in the lives of several
people who have visited and remained with us to form the core of the Uncommon
Church:
read some of their stories.
The
New Beginnings with a commencement of publicized worship services at the new
Church and a formal introduction to the city of Omaha was held on Sunday, March 23, 2008
during the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!
